Question 6 [(FiNAL)]

Do you disagree or agree?
Economic differences between friends cause problems; people from different economic backgrounds cannot be friends.
I disagree totally with this statement. I think it doesn't matter about there economic background. If they are that good of friends it doesn't matter. Two people one rich and one poor could be best friends. It doesn't matter if one is richer than the other if they real wanted them as friends then they wouldn't care. If you had a friend and they didn't want to be friends with you cause of your economic differences than they are not true friends. I think that if anyone judges you about your friend like a family member or another freinds I think you need to stick up for your friend and not care about what other people think. This is what I personally think about this situation but if you think different comment me.

Popular People

I agree with the statement popular people get away with more then less popular people. Here is the reasoning for why I agree with this statement. Obviously popular people know more people then less popular people because that's what popularity is really about. Now since these popular people know so many people it really lets them off easy. If a popular person does something bad they may know the person that would be punishing them for whatever it is they did and that person may be like oh well I know this kid so I'll let him slide this time, and the more popular the more this happens. But if a not so popular kid needs to get punished the chances of them knowing the person aren’t as high as if they were popular. The person will then punish them for whatever it is they did. I’m not saying the popular kid will always know the person, or the less popular kid will never know the person but the statement was popular people get away with more then less popular people. Meaning most of the time not always.

Anticipation Guide Q7

Economic differences between friends cause problems? I disagree. I think you can be friends with whoever you want and if someone teases you about something like that, you stand up for what you believe in and teach those people a lesson. I have friends that are different in all different ways and it doesn't matter to me at all. What I see in a friend is, caring, loving, funny, cheery, helpful and most of all someone who is there for you when you need them most. The saying that came to my mind when I read this question was, “don’t judge a book by its cover". For those of you that don't know what that means, it means, don't judge someone or something by the way they look or there religion or the way they dress or the way they wear there hair. All that matters is if they are a good friend. In conclusion, I believe that it's your choice how to choose your friends but in my opinion it doesn’t matter what there appearance is.

Question 1 Springboard page 202

Question: Summarize the Erik Fisher Football Dream. How does "the dream" influence the interactions of the family? Is the Fisher family similar to any other families you know from the reading, from viewing, or from your own experience?

"The Erik Fisher Football Dream" is what Paul calls his brother's life. Erik is a football star and ever since he started playing, his dad has been all over the idea of Erik's football life. In Paul's view, Erik is the star of the family and his dad pretty much never pays attention to Paul. This "dream" has impacted the way of life around the Fisher house because they hardly ever talk about anything other than Erik's football. I know a family who's lives pretty much revolve around their kids' sports. Whether it's a 5:30 game that's an hour and a half away, or a trip across the country, they pretty much plan their whole life around it. It's sad because they never have any family time. It's all "Oops! You're late for your game!" I definitely wouldn't want to be Paul. He's like an extra charm and Erik's the bracelet.

English Question 3 Essay

In Kira’s world, Children are sometimes abused or neglected. Not even talking about Matt the whole village is abused sometimes. On page 15 it shows a way Kira is neglected by Vandara. "I’ve returned to rebuild my cott," she said to Vandara. "Your space is gone. It's mine now. Those Saplings are mine." This is neglect because she needs a place to stay but Vandara is taking her cott and doesn’t care what is going to happen to her.

Now talking about Matt he is abused and neglected more then anyone in the village. On page 158 there is a paragraph witch shows Matt being abused by his mother. "His mum chucked a rock at him because he had taken some food!" This shows abuse because he wanted some food and his mom throws something at him, and not even something light it’s a rock. Also on page 158 it shows neglect. "Do you suppose he might be sick? Kira asked worried. "His nose is always runny suppose I should have never cleaned him up." This is neglect because Matt is sick and his mom isn’t going to clean him up and decided cleaning him up last time dumb and she shouldn’t have done it. You can tell that Matt is abused and neglected a lot because not even one page went by since matt was abused and t shows neglect.

Due to Matt being abused his personality is loyal to those who support him and take risks for him. These qualities help Kira because it helps her grow as an artist and as a person. Some of these ways are supporting her just like she supported him. While all the other kids were playing he would be with her helping her. He was always concerned about her and he was her only friend until Thomas came along. He protected her like she was his sister. From all these things just by helping her and being her friend he helped Kira improve as a person and as an artist just as I said before.

Gathering Blue*

For our english class we have been reading a very interesting book called Gathering Blue. So far in this book this has been very enjoyable. In this book there has been alot about Vandara. The question that we all want to know about is, is she respected or feared. I think that she has both. Here is a description. "Vandara was tall and muscular, with long, tangled hair pulled back roughly and tied with a thing at the back of her neck. Her eyes were dark and her direct look pierced any calmness that Kira might have felt." I have some examples from the text to show that she is the leader of there world. "Other women emerged from surrounding cotts. "We need it," one called." This part is when Vandara is telling Kira that she wants the land that Kira owns. I think that this shows respect because all the women are respecting her decision on taking her land and making it into a pin for there tykes. This part of the book proves her leadership. " Kira saw that she was surrounded by hostile women who had come from their cotts and were watching Vandara for instructions and leadership." This part basically means that the other women in there world look at Vandara for her leadership and strength. Here is an example of fear towards Vandara. "Kira looked directly at Vandara but she was speaking to the others now, in need of there support. She appealed not to their sympathy, because she knew they had none, but to their fear." Another example to prove that Vandara is the leader is that when they went to the council of guardians Vandara was the one to go and try to get her land. Another thing that gives her respect and fear is when she was sent to the field the beasts cut her throat and she survived. were There are alot of more examples of Vandara's respect and fear from the other women.

Gathering Blue

The book Gathering Blue was very interesting and different. I enjoyed reading about Kira’s life. The leader of the town was Vandara. She was a big part of the town and everybody respected her. Not necessarily because she was a good leader but because she was feared by the women in the town. She was an evil leader who didn’t care about anyone but herself. She respected the women in the town who weren’t crippled. Unfortunately Kira had a crippled leg that was useless. Vandara would do anything for Kira to be sent to the beasts and to be killed.

I think Vandara is a feared leader. Some scary interactions between Vandara and the women of the town are that Vandara’s big scar that runs down her chin scares some women in the town. Most women talk about her scary scar and how brave she must have been to have survived the beasts (pg.15). Another fear would be when the council wouldn’t listen to Vandara’s idea about what they were going to do with Kira. Vandara got angry. Her anger was shown to the women and to Kira Now they know not to get Vandara mad (pg 49).

Although Vandara is respected, the women don’t always agree with her choices. For example, the women of the town suggested that Vandara takes the situation about Kira to the council instead of trying to handle it herself. The women didn’t trust that Vandara knew what she was doing even though she was the leader of the town (pg.17). Another example would be when Vandara picked up a rock to throw at Kira. The women of the town didn’t think it was right to throw rocks at a young girl just because she had a useless leg. They did it anyways just because they didn’t want to get on Vandara’s bad side. They threw the rock gently and had no intention of hurting her unlike Vandara. (Pg16-17)

I think Vandara is brave but fearful. I don’t think she is a good leader at all even though she is respected by all the women in the town. She is only respected because everyone is scared of her. Even if the women disagree with Vandara’s choices they do it anyways because they are scared of the evil Vandara. Like I said before the women didn’t want to throw the rocks at Kira but they did it anyways. In conclusion, I think that Vandara is a bad leader for this town and she shouldn’t be respected or feared by the people.

Question #8

Question: The question as to how free Kira and Thomas are, even though they have more freedom of movement than Jo or the Singer. They can be considered (captive/free) in this Edifice because...

Answer:

I think Kira and Thomas have a little bit of freedom, but not so much that they can do whatever they want. It's like they are being held captive because they have a certain amount of work to do every day and they have restrictions, but in a sense they aren't because the council aren't really their guardians. However on page 141 Jamison tells Kira she isn't allowed to go to the Field to sit with Annabella after she died. "'She'll need a watcher' Kira pointed out to Jamison. 'Could I go sit with her? I did for my mother.' But Jamison said no. Time was short. The gathering was coming. Four days could not be lost." This proves that basically all Jamison cares about is for Kira to do her duty and finish the robe. That's why he checks in on her so often. He is very impatient and worried that it won't be finished on time.

Jo doesn't have as much freedom for a reason. The Council believes that a toddler should not be allowed to have any freedom whatsoever. Life being locked in a room forever is so cruel. It's a little tyke! Shouldn't they at least be able to go out and play with her other friends? No wonder she cries all the time! She has no friends, no family, (she doesn't even know her mother is dead!) no one to talk to except Jamison who scolds her all the time for not doing something right! The poor kid will lose her voice before she even has to start thinking about learning the song! Yes I do believe Jo has a very unfair, freedom less life.

The Council Edifice is obviously a place where they hold talented kids as full time workers. They push them to the limit and they start to not like their special ability because they have been pushed too far. Life there would absolutely stink. End of story.

SuperPower

This is a story about how I discovered my power I get when I play the electric guitar. Okay so here’s how it goes. I was at some guitar store with my cousin because he plays the guitar. So the ones that were out I was playing with and making songs and stuff and my cousin told me I was actually really good. So I started to play some more and the manager of the store came over and was like "Wow who do you get lessons from."  I said "Nobody." He goes "Well you sure have a real talent for it." So we leave I tell my parents and a week later for my birthday I get an electric guitar.  I start to play that day and all the sudden I'm in the middle of my song and everything in the room including my and my guitar started floating up. I stopped playing and we slowly came back down. I thought I was getting sick and feeling things so I took a nap. I woke up and my mom asked me how I liked the guitar so I played for her and again everything in the            mom almost had a heart attack she was so scared. I knew I wasn’t seeing things anymore because my mom felt it too. My dad ran in to see what the drama was. My mom said “Morgan play.” Then we started rising. My dad went through the shock and then my sister. Now my whole family knew about my power of when I play guitar I make people and things levitate.

About a week later I was practicing in my room. When I practice I would practice in the air of course because I levitated every time I played guitar but not everything levitated every time anymore only the first few times, but I could never control what I levitated. When all the sudden I heard a man yelling and threatening a boy outside with a gun. I ran outside and started playing on my porch and the man’s gun lifted out of his hand. The man was so shocked, freaked out and was weaponless now so he ran. I with my power saved this boys life. Ever since then my powers have been public and used for the good.

Special Talent (Magical Powers)

Some people have a special talent. But not everybody. Once that person has figured out their power, they should use it in a crafty way. If I were to have that amazing power, I would choose to have the talent of making my chores go faster. Usually when I am cleaning my room or doing my laundry, I always wish it would go faster. I mean, doesn't every kid wish that?

I wouldn't want to wish chores all together away, because then there would be no excitement for the activity you would have next. Say I had 3 hours of homework. I would want to have something to look forward to so I could finish faster. My mom says that if I finish my chores I can go out with my friends later. So, I would want to finish my chores as quickly as possible. But if chores were completely gone, then life would be boring. And I know what you are thinking. Life without chores could be amazing! However, you wouldn't know how to take care of your family when you grew old, because you never learned how!

So let's say I had this amazing power of making chores go faster. How would I use it and when would be the right time? Well I would use it only when I was desperately needing a break from chores. How would it make the world a better place? Well that's a different question... You see this amazing power can be shared. But only if you want it to be. You can share it with anyone you want, as long as they only use it once. Hey, you gotta love the saying, “Sharing is caring!"

Alright well that's basically all you need to know about this amazing power that I wish I had. Oh! I forgot to tell you how to receive this power. You must truly believe in happiness, Santa Claus, jealousy, sadness, and the tooth fairy. But it only happens when pigs fly... I mean come on, like that’s ever going to happen.
