Friendship Essay

Jim and Antonia's friendship in My Antonia is similar to Gina and Soo-Hyung's friendship in "Once Around Manhattan".
In My Antonia, Antonia tells Jim things about her that she doesn't tell other people, like how she likes working outdoors better than working inside. In "Once Around Manhattan", Gina tells Soo-Hyung about her Italian grandmother.
Both pairs of friends spend a lot of time together. Jim and Antonia work on a corn farm in Kansas together. Gina and Soo-Hyung joined The Challenge Club together.
Lastly, they both have people trying to convince them to act a certain way. In "Once Around Manhattan", Mr. Kravitz tells the girls they can quit if they have to only because they're girls. In My Antonia, Jim's grandma tells it's not right for her to work outside because she's a girl.
Those are the reasons that the friendships in My Antonia and "Once Around Manhattan" are similar to each other.

Final Essay

The friendship between Jim and Antonia, and Gina and Soo-Hyung are similar.

The friendship between Gina and Soo-Hyung is made by achieving the hardest task they ever had. The task was harder because they were the only girls in the Challenge Club and Mr.Kravitz thought little of them. Mr. Kratitz kept talking to them as if he wanted them to quit. Their task was to canoe to the Statue of Liberty before the river stopped flowing downstream and began to reverse with a upcoming tide. They showed friendship by never giving up and working together to complete their task.

The friendship between Antonia and Jim started when Antonia went with Jim to the garden to get early vegetables for dinner. Antonia used to sing " Oh, better I like to work out-of-doors than in a house!" she used to sing joyfully. Antonia also said " I like your grandmother, and all things here." Last, she says " If I live here, like you, that is different. Things will be easy for you. But they will be hard for us."

I hope this essay showed you how many types of friendships are their and how these are the same.

Anticipation guide question six says that economic differences between friends cause problems and that people from different economic backgrounds cannot be friends.  I disagree with this statement.  For one example to prove my point, I have friends with different economic bacgrounds and we get along quite well.  I also know my sister has friends with different economic backgrounds.  From these first-hand experiences, I conclude that the statement is false, and I disagree.

The Erik Fisher Football Dream is that Eric, who plays kicker, will go to a top-notch D1 school in Florida and then make it to the NFL. His dad, meanwhile, will serve as a role model for middle-aged men who were never athletes who live their lives through their son. The family, meanwhile, is supposed to devote everything to helping Eric achieve his dream. I don’t know any family like the Fishers, but it doesn’t make sense to give up everything for a small shot at glory. There are only about 40 kickers in the entire NFL, including free agents usually signed to one week contracts, and only 2 or three get drafted in one year. In the end, it doesn’t  make much sense.

Tangerine Anticipation Guide Essay

I'm answering, and agreeing with, question 7 (popular people can get away with more than less popular people) on the anticipation guide.
Popular people always seem to get away with whatever they want. For example... (I'm having trouble thinking of an example...) G.W., who was popular, tapped peoples phone lines. That is against our constitution, but he did it. What happened to him? I don't really know... BUT, it wasn't very severe!! How do I know? He's still our president.
Paris Hilton was caught driving drunk and her license was suspended. Two months later, she was caught driving with the suspended license. Another 43 days later, she was arrested for driving at 70mph in a 35mph zone, with the same suspended license, without her headlights on, during the night. That is 3 laws broken at the same time. She was only put in jail for 22 DAYS. Most people would be put in jail for at least a month.
Because they were popular, they got away with something we can't. I don't think that is fair, which is why I agree with question 7.

CHILD ABUSE IN GATHERING BLUE!!!!!! Yes, it's true.

You may have noticed how, in Gathering Blue, the tykes (children) are abused, or neglected, or pooped on. Ok, I made up the last one, but doesn't it make it sound even worse? Anyhoo (To Ms. Hill: I know that’s not a word, but it sounds funny, so I'm keeping it. DON'T BRING MY GRADE DOWN BECAUSE OF IT!!!!!), on page 16, the women want to make a pen for their chickens and their tykes. It isn't healthy for children to play with chickens. It also isn't healthy to be penned up either, BUT CHICKENS! They could have worms, or be diseased, or teach the kids the FUNKEY CHIKEN. That would be terrible. Anyhoo (Yay, I used it again.), on page 208, Kira's father suggests that Vandara killed her tyke for accidentally tripping her.
Matt is both neglected and abused at times. On page 101, the men didn't even care that the tyke had taken one of their spears. They just completely ignored him. When he ran away on pages 162 and 163, his mom didn't care. In fact, she was glade he left, except that he stole some food. Who wouldn't run away? It says on page 164 that "She thrashed Matt so hard he was horrid bloody". That counts as abuse in my book (not literally... I don't write books). On page 10 Matt says that "I be whipped iffen I don't finish the fire twiggies." Whipping someone for not collecting fire sticks is just wrong.
Even though Matt is abused, in a way it makes him a better person. It made him take more risks in his life. On page 164, his brother says he ran away just to get Kira a "giftie". He definitely wouldn't have enough courage to give her the "giftie" during The Gathering like he did on pages 184-185. Even though he is abused, Matt can use that to his advantage. Well, most of the time at least.
