I'd like to celebrate the different great blog entries that we've read over the last couple of days. This week,I will share my favorite entries. The way it works is each week, a blog group will be responsible for a minimum of one blog entry per gold/green/blue/grape group. They need to link their favorite posts with a short explanation as to why they chose it. They also can choose one Blog as the Blog of the Week... where a blog group has put together such an interesting set of posts for that week that they want to highlight as the goto Blog.
The blog group that gets to be the reviewers will be chosen out of a hat for this coming week's blogs.
So... (drum roll......) this week's Blog WOW goes for:
CLARIFYING THE DEFINITION OF A REAL FAN: 5Gs Front runners, fans or fakes by Reggie S. for writing a post that reminds fans that if you're a real fan, you're with your team before they win and even if they lose. And for giving me an opportunity to switch teams before it's too late. But I won't.
COMMITMENT FROM A 12 YEAR OLD: 5Gs ALMS Basketball by Tristan G. for writing a post that really demonstrates the commitment you need to be a good player in basketball. I really enjoyed hearing about working with his coach.. wearing weighted jackets to build strength and endurance (I guess). It's exciting to realize that some people are working hard to realize something at the age of 12.
BEST TEENAGE VOICE: Sunset Hannahh Hereee by Hannah M. for writing an autobiographical piece in her own voic. Obviously, she can't write all her pieces with this voice... but for dialogue about a character named Hannah M or young adult fiction in a teen voice.. it's perfect. I really enjoyed reading it and you will too. Oh... and for the way she changed the link address for her title.. funny, smart, little extra for those paying attention.
FUNNIEST: The GrapeVine The Wacky Rooster Rodeo by Jocelyn O. Easily one of my favorite titles and favorite stories. I would love to read a longer version of this story, but it's funny to think of roosters in her basement running around trying to rescue the hens.
SERIOUS WORLD NEWS: The GrapeVine The Tragedy of Darfur by Chelsea W. For reminding us to know about a genocide going on right now in Darfur. I don't know how we can help the suffering people of Darfur, but we can't do anything about it if we don't know about it... it's the first step. And, sometimes I forget that young people actually are thinking about what's going on around them. There's hope in that as well.
RULES TO LIVE BY : The Naturals Rules aren't for Drools by Chelsea S. I loved this piece... it's from the rules stories and it made me feel like we really have to have a Rule In.. where you guys read your best rule to your group and then we share the best of those with the class. This rule had to do with eating. I won't ruin it for you by saying more, but I will say I do feel like maybe I should keep that rule myself.
LOVE OF A BOOK: Ice Pops Twilight Addict for Life by Shannon G. I don't think anyone could love a series more than this writer. She loves it so much that she thinks she may need help breaking away to other books. And she blames Hayley and Kristen... and ME! for it. I may actually have to read this series now.
NEW YEAR'S EVE AS IT SHOULD BE: PeaceLoveBlue My End of 2008 by Colleen L. For a post that really reminds you that you can have the best time with very little effort, right close to home. I loved the details of all the things she did and I feel certain that she'll remember this New Year's Eve until she's a very old woman.
MOST FUN WITH A SONG: PeaceLoveBlue Are We Human or Are We Dancers Lindsey Version by LindseyS Obviously having more fun with this song than anyone has a right to have, Lindsey writes about how a song she initially hated became her favorite song and her obsession.
WORKING TO SAVE THE ENVIRONMENT: GrapeJuice How to be Eco Friendly by Crystal U. Crystal gives some good tips for how to be more green. The list is very doable and any of us can get started right away. She also wrote her story in green... which I thought paid attention to making the type tell the story she was telling. Also, he shares lots of links for more information if you really want to help the environment.
GOOD ADVICE FOR PET FUTURES: GrapeJuice Picking the Right Dog for You by Justine B. So many people get a dog based on looks without considering the type of dog, it's temperament and other qualities. Then when the puppy is older and less adoptable, they give it up because it only looked like a dog they'd like. This post reminds you to take care when picking a live animal to bring home.
AMAZING MICRO ARTIST: LiveLaughLilac Nothing Does Not Exist by Danica F. The most amazing artist I've ever heard of... who works between the beats of his heart. Very worthwhile finding out about him. I'd like to see links to his work in this post because once you see what he does and watch the interview..you can't really believe that someone can do that. Thanks Danica for bringing him to our attention.
BEING NICE TO EVERYBODY: LiveLaughLilac Be Nice to Everybody Not Just Somebody by Rebecca K. I loved this post about Rebecca meeting a lost autistic child and about how it changed the way she looked at some friends she had at the time. A good reminder about how to be on the planet.
FOR BEST TRIP TO SUGAR MOUNTAIN: Royal Purples Chilly's World by Silvia G. A great, imaginative ride through a world made of candy.. where detention is fun and everything is edible and sweet.
FOR BEST LYRICS: tba It's Almost Christmas So Be Good. I Didn't Know Santa was so Hood. By J'QuanH. I took this down a while back because of a word that I felt was offensive.. but the fact is.. these are great lyrics and a lot of fun. If you didn't get a chance to read them at the time.. go back and read. And J'Quan... if you have music to go with these lyrics.. let's put up a podcast.
: GrapeJuice
BEST TITLES :
Me for Dummies by Hannah L.
The Wacky Rooster Rodeo Vacation by Jocelyn O.
The Change of Bench Equals Goal by Adrian V.
Interviewing French Fries by Maria N.
It's Almost Christmas So Be Good. I Didn't Know Santa Was So Hood by J'Quan H.
BEST THEME WRITING GROUP AWARD: MidnightPandas. For RANTS... a theme that made for some fun reading and allowed everyone to rant about things that bugged them. It's not a theme you'd want to overdo. Rants every week just start to sound like complaining... but for a Blog Issue... it was just great.
