Practice Test Essay

The friendship between Jim and Antonia in My Antonia and the friendship between Gina and Soo-Hyung in "Once Around Manhattan" are both similar and different in many ways.

Jim and Antonia enjoy each others company. They are both care free and cheerful. They work together in a fun way. They love to run in the garden and Antonia loves to take off her sunbonnet and let her hair fly in the breeze. The two are very happy. Antonia likes to be outside with Jim. Jim's grandmother says it makes he like a man, but she likes to be like a man. His grandmother and he are glad to have her in the house. Jim and Antonia are inseperable.

Gina and Soo-Hyung love adventure, a challenge, and each other. They were the only girls in the Challenge Club. They are both athletic, Gina is a gymnast and Soo-Hyung is a swimmer. Gina and Soo-Hyung like to share memories with each other. They both have different opinions on something's, but they don't fight over which one has the better opinion. They respect each other and each others opinion. These two are just like sisters.

The two friendships have something's in common. They both like being with each other. They would never fight. The friends both like adventure. They like to run, climb, and swim. They also admirer nature and the scenery around them. When it is hot Jim and Antonia like to watch the horizon, watch the lightning, and listen to the thunder. Gina and Soo-Hyung like to look at the bridges, the water, and the Statue of Liberty. These two friendships love so many things and they happen to be the same things.

Jim and Antonia and Gina and Soo-Hyung have different friendships. Even though they are different they are also the same.

Can popular people get away more than less popular people?

Do you agree or disagree that popular people can get away more than less popular people? I disagree because the meaning of being popular is that people know who you really are inside and the way you act with others. And if your a person who's always getting in trouble and always in/starting fights at least like 10 times a week than your popular but in the bad way of being popular. You maybe saying right now what I'm talking about being popular in the bad way. But remember this; the meaning of popular is that people know who you are inside and the way you act to others. And teachers and principal are going to remember you as the bad kid who always is getting into trouble and in/starting fights. And I don't think any one wants to be remembering in there school years as the bad kid that if you hang out with, is going to get you in trouble.  I'm right, right? Yes and also not just your teachers and principals are going to remember like bad kid but also your friends and school mates are going remember and maybe in few years after no ones want to see you cause every one going to think if you that bad in school they maybe really scared of what you did with the rest life now that your done with school.

Now if your less popular than you  may have a few friends or a little more  and few of your teachers  that will remember you as a good, nice, and smart kid cause you  may never get in trouble or in and/or start fight with other people in your school. So what I'm saying is that maybe you’re less popular is because people remember you as maybe another good kid in school. So maybe in a few years people will just remember you as just another good kid and nothing else. But take this in a bad way its good thing people will remember just as a good kid cause this means that mostly every one always said like "hey there look its  (whatever your name is) lets go and hang out with him/her so we wont get trouble cause will be doing the right thing when with them." I know it sounds corny but it’s the best way I can put it.

Now I don't know any one who I can use as an example so I just made one up. Ok here it is: If two kids are in a fight in school and there called into the Dens office and the said: "Ok which one of you started the fight?'  And the one on the right said" he started it." And then the kid on the left said”No he did." Now the kid on the right is one of the most bad type of popular kids in school and the one on the left isn't one the most popular in a bad way but his teacher's think as him as another good kid in school and has never had a fight in school. Who do you think the principal going to believe?

Difference between a skill and an art (A discussion question)

The discussion question that I chose was what are  qualities that determine the difference between a skill and an art (which would be number 5). The qualities that determine the difference between a skill and an art are an artist creates there own creation and a skill is something that someone else teaches you.

Katrina (Kira's mother) was a skilled sewer and not an artist. The reason this true is because she all she did was repair the robe, but not add any thing original to the repair. Proof from the story of this fact includes when "Katrina was asked to replace a few threads that had been torn loose" (page. 41). Another one is when "each year that followed, they had brought the ancient robe again to her mother for repairs" (page 42). This met that all she did was repair the Singer's robe and not put any thing else on it.

Kira, on the other hand is true artist. The evidence that she is an artist comes when she put her own creativity on the Singer's Robe. Examples in the text where she demonstrates this artistry include the part where she surprised her mother by doing something that they no one ever had taught her to do (page 29). Another example in the text is when Jamison came to see how the Singer's Robe came out and was "obviously pleased with her work" (page 169).

Inclusion a skill is not almost the same as art. A skill means you can do something well because you have been taught to be good at it. In other words a skill maybe something to fix something that some one else's creation. And art means a creation of a beautiful thing or things that you make your own that one else has taught to you. Or in another way an art is something to be born with it.

My magic ability

My magic ability is when I do origami. When I first started to do origami I was about9 or 10 years old. At first it was just something I did when I was bored or I had nothing else to do. When I told my mom that I wanted to start origami she was so happy for because she told me that when she was a kid she loved to do origami. So once I singed up for origami I was so good in that class (well lets just say I was a good learner).  Then when all my origami class were done (the classes were in my old school called Davis) my mom started to buy me books about origami because I want to learn more about. The next thing I know I have like 10 books about origami (they were all books for beginners). Even though I was sill o a beginner level I started to make my things with the origami paper (you need a special type of paper to do origami). It was like my brain couldn't control my hands when I’m just playing around with the origami paper. One day when I was in my room doing nothing I garbed a piece of origami paper and started to play around with it. In a minute I made a nice little flower in the color of red it looked like a rose to me. Then when I showed it my mom she asks "How did you do this? Did you learn from one of your books? said my mom. Then I told her that I just did it my self with out even thinking.  So now every time I do origami my hands just go on there own and just start doing whatever. Then the next thing I know is that I just made a flower or boat or a bow or something. It's like magic in one, two, and three. Don't you think its magic? I feel like its magic because besides doing origami every thing else I do like holding something just drops or breaks a part.

Why?

WHY ?

Have you ever been in school and then your mind starts to wonder, then you just start thinking why, why, why. Just right out of the clear blue sky. You probably just sit there asking yourself the same question over and over again.  Why?. Why am I called on when I don’t even have my hand raised?. Then you think maybe the teacher does not like me, or maybe your teacher thinks its fun to pick on me, knowing that I am going to get the question wrong.

The next day you go to school and you get the confidence to talk to your teacher. you have got to know why she is always picking on you (yet you still have a feeling that she’s going to make some lie up just to make you feel better) so you walk into school and go straight to her room you walk up to her desk and say, “why do you always pick on me to answer the problem when you know that I do not have my hand raised?  You don’t even call on the other kids who do the same thing as I do’’

So suppose that the next day when you go to school, your teacher does not call on you.  she only calls on you when you have your hand raised.  You like that a lot. So now you know you did not make a fool of yourself in front of the whole class . Trust me that happens to alot of kids .

So the next time you have a problem like this all you have to do is talk to your teacher and work things out .So you do not end up getting called on when you don’t want to be called on. Remember that sometimes it is worth it to speak your mind. I hope this advice is helpful  to anyone who needs it and I hope they or you use it too.

OK that is it for now Goodbye .

no homework

My opinion on homework is that it is not necessary. I think homework is not necessary because all day we work and work for about six hours and we need a break! We have to do our homework if we want good grades. Lots of kids at my school have anther school activities, so its harder for them to do their homework because they come home at like five or six clock all tired. then they reallied that they have to do their homework. Also teachers say they have more work then kids, but if  they stop giving homework may be even tests then they wont have as mush work to do.So come Mrs.Hill give us a break! also in other class's they give like three pages of homework per day! Its just to mush homework!

Not only are kids saying that homework is useless its also teachers and professor's that have been studding and saying that there is no resin for homework. Chines Primary Schools started the no homework term. some educators say that releasing students from homework will bring a  fresh air for cultivating their creativity. So if kids had no homework they creativity time such as drawing, music, singing, and dancing. The students at Brooklyn Free School don't have to do homework ,or have to take test. they don't even have grades! the assistant primal  Alan Berger of  Brooklyn Free School said: our belief is that if we let them pursue their passions and desires, they'll be able to get into it deeper. What were that means. Many free schools closed down, so few are left.

No Homework Policy

Ms. Hill, in this essay I will be telling you why there should be a No Homework Policy. Homework can be too much and a lot of work. No child wants homework. It is just making our life harder for us.

Homework is to much to put on a kid when he/she is balancing school, good grades, and after school activities I have to balance my homework grades, and after school activities. Kids need more time to focus on these things than homework. Grades are more important than homework. In Norwalk, Connecticut student from kindergarten to grade 2 would not go over 10 minutes of homework, from grade 3 to grade 5 15 minutes, middle school kids should not go over 60 to 90 minutes of homework, and high schoolers 2 hours.

No homework should be given during holiday breaks or weekends because kids in school deserve a break during these times. Classwork should be assigned in class and kids should have enough time to finish work in school. Classwork is better than homework because in school you can have the teacher in the class were you can get help the help you need, but at home you only have parents who haven't been to school in a long time. Also during the weekends and holidays you can't get the help you need. Things that should be brought home as homework are reading books and studying for tests and exams. Studying for tests will boost your grade in school.

Homework is giving kids more stress everytime they get assignments. Every year homework is getting harder for me and other kids in school. As you grow older your homework gets harder. If I keep on doing homework I will get more stressed. Doing homework is good, but in school we are getting to much. Dorothy Rich, founder of the nonprofit Home and School Institute "In the biggest parament, it ought to help kids make better sense of the world. Too often it doesn't.". I think she is trying to say that homework should help you in the world and in life, but she is saying it is not helping you often.

Homework is stressful. It is even more stressful if you have homework on the break you get every month. Kids in school doing afterschool activities have to much on there shoulders and with homework it is getting heavier and heavier. Kids want to have the weight taken off. Having homework is making me and my fellow classmates worry about more things in life.

NO HOMEWORK

CASE AGINST HOMEWORK

This article is about the case against homework, and I am about to tell you some facts you do not know about homework. Most people say that homework is good but there are people who think otherwise like, Sara Bennett and Nancy Kalish.

Most students/kids have busy schedules and do not get home till late and then by the time they get home it are, really late at night for example I have a busy schedule like on Fridays I have school then after that have to go to the high school for track practice and that usually ends at 6:30 after that I have to rush home and take a shower if I have time next I need to go to church for dance practice after church I have BHY (bezer holiness youth)

I get back home around 11:30 then I have to rush to bed because I have a busy morning I have to go to my friend’s house then we have to drive to Manhattan for more dance practice at grace Baptist church that ends at 10:30, then comes my afternoon in my afternoon I have to pick up my litel sister and now I get to start my homework.

This is why there should be no homework!

Nancy says “that the time our children spend doing homework has skyrocketed in recent years”. According to Sara and Nancy there is no evidence showing that homework helps elementary school students achieve academic success and little more that it helps older students. (www.caseaginsthomework.com)

NO HOMEWORK

Teachers give way too much homework, we do so much in school why should we have to come home to even more especially because they give so much . I get so much that I sometimes don't have enough time to play outside when it's bright outside (emotional appeal). Also, more than half the high school students do just as well without homework. It's also proven that for high shcool students that after two hours of homework there is no benefit from it and for middle school students after one-and-a-half hours (1-1/2) there is no benefit from homework (rational appeal). Harris Cooper says that teachers aren't trained properly on how to give students homework assignments that will advance learning and skills. People also say that teachers don't agree on the purpose of homework and that brings inconsistency in assignments and confusion for students." (sometimes me) (emotional appeal). I think that students shouldn't have to do work then come home to work. Why can't we do other activities such as sports, art projects, and puzzles?
